“My first trip to Louisiana was to New Orleans,
I was barely twenty years old. Already hooked on this music, I left on
the footsteps of Professor Longhair, James Booker or Roosevelt Sykes, to feel the enormous legacy they had left. By scouring the clubs, from the Maple Leaf to Tipitina's I tried to integrate some elements into my playing. Then I found myself by magic, at Vaughan's Lounge, like in an old Juke Joint, hammering the ivories all night and chaining a series of concerts where the experience exceeded my dreams. The Blues is even rawer going up the Mississippi, I was following in the footsteps of Otis Spann, who left an indelible mark on my playing.
"Bluesiana" is made up of six compositions and six covers, influenced by these trips and the encounters I had there. At the base I wanted to record a solo piano and it seemed obvious to me to invite my friend Kevin Doublé then Patrick Ferné and Igor Pichon to sublimate the acoustic sound of this album. For the sound recording, I called on Christian Gaszczuk, known for his very natural acoustic treatment.
As Otis Spann did to record Otis in The Dark, turn off the light and let yourself be carried away by this wind of Louisiana Blues" J. Brunetaud
